IRVINGTON, N.J. (WPIX) - A burglary suspect shot by police in New Jersey early Thursday morning has died at the hospital.
Essex County Prosecutor Anthony Ambroise told PIX News that passersby called police when they saw the suspect inside a machine shop in Irvington.
Police chased the suspect on foot as he lead the officers to a multi-family home located at 58 Beverly Street.
The pursuit ended at the home just before 4:30 a.m. when an officer shot the suspect once in the shoudler.
The suspect was transported to University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey's trauma center, where he was pronounced dead at 6:10 a.m.
The officer who fired his gun sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital in unknown condition.
The name of the late suspect was not immediately released.
